Summer is finally here! School is out, and the cold, dark days of winter have given way to warmer temperatures and plenty of sunlight. Of course, more people in the house and plenty of foot traffic from inside to outside and back again throughout the day also means more dirt and dust. Hotter temperatures are also perfect for bacterial growth in kitchens and bathrooms. Fortunately, we at Zerorez have a few simple tips and tricks to help keep your house clean over the summer months.
Remember that smell from the heater when it’s first switched on in the winter? That’s the smell of dust. It’s not as easy to notice when you switch to air conditioning in the warmer months, but it’s still there! Take some time at the beginning of the summer to change your air conditioning filter. You can also clean it with some warm, soapy water or a vacuum. Same goes for all the ceiling fans — try using a pillowcase on either side of the blades to scoop dust into the case, rather than all over your room. Simply dump the dust in the trash bin and pop the case in the laundry basket when you’re done!
Now is also an excellent time to clean out the fridge and the freezer. Bacteria grows faster in the summer heat, even inside refrigerators and freezers. Take time to clear away any old produce or leftovers, and wash down surfaces of the fridge with antibacterial soap. You can keep your frozen foods cold while you clean by putting the food you want to keep in the sink and covering it with ice. Toss any frozen foods that have signs of freezer burn. You can scrape away built up frost with some hot water and the car scraper you use for your windshield, and scrub up the rest with some warm water and soap. Once you’ve got food back into the freezer, you can quickly take care of any bad smells from the disposal by pouring baking soda, then vinegar down the drain. Let it bubble for five minutes or so (just like those old elementary school volcanos!) and then rinse it down with some hot water.
Got a smelly trash can? You can take care of that too. First, clean out the can with some soap and water. Once it’s dry, you can sprinkle the bottom with baking soda to help eliminate odors, or add some folded newspapers to soak up any spills.
Summer is also an important time to pay attention to some of the most frequently used surfaces in your home: counters and floors. Basic maintenance like frequently cleaning countertops and sweeping or vacuuming floors can help keep your home clean and germ-free, but it’s also a good idea to call in the experts of Zerorez to take care of the deep cleaning. If you notice that your carpets don’t look clean after being vacuumed any more, it’s time to call in the professionals! In fact, most carpet manufacturers recommend having your carpets professionally cleaned once a year.
Zerorez uses top-of-the-line products to deep clean these high-traffic areas of your home without putting children or pets at risk for ingesting harmful chemicals. With help from the latest cleaning technology, Zerorez is able to reach deep into the fibers of carpet to handle even the most persistent stains or pesky odors from pet urine. While other companies use harsh chemicals to treat your carpets, Zerorez uses Zr Water, a 100% non-toxic product that’s safe for children and pets and leaves no chemical residue behind. Additionally, we leave 200% less water on your carpets when we leave–your carpets will be ready to go only a few hours after cleaning.
